What's the best way to prevent dysregulation in kids?
Having clear routines/structure/expectations in place
You have a camper that can't sleep at bedtime and keeps coming up to you while you're trying to sleep :// what do you do?
1. be patient! it might be one of their first times away from home and they j need a little more love and support
2. give them little tips and tricks (I like to tell them to build their dream house in their head)
3. sleep spray!! just in case i like to keep some lavender spray (or u can literally j use water) and call it a magic sleep spray
who can you go to at camp for support with behaviors?
UL's, A team, MHP's, CA's
What are the three R's and why do they matter for working with littles?
Regulate, relate, reason
They matter bc kids don't have the developmental capacity to reason when dysregulated, so it's important to meet them where they're at.
you have a camper that is consistently sitting out of activities? what do you do?
two campers get in a physical altercation! what do you do?
2. call for support and make sure a-team is aware of the situation
3. have someone talk with each camper (keeping rule of three) and work with each camper to figure out a solution
4. don't force them to apologize to eachother or make up, just let things flow naturally but remind them that physical violence won't be tolerated at camp
5. make sure someone is keeping an eye on them!! these situations can definitely fester if you're not vigilant about them
