basis of an official’s decision to call a foul or not when contact has occurred
What is Illegal vs. Marginal?
the ability to replay a play or situation in your head before making a decision
What is Play Processing?
ability to remember plays/situations that has occurred once those plays/situations are over
What is Play Recall?
working on the same vertical line of the ball at the LEAD position
What is Mirror the Ball?
area on the floor where an official can assist or has secondary responsibility
What is Secondary Coverage?
calling an OBVIOUS foul in your SECONDARY, but first giving the PRIMARY official an opportunity to blow the whistle
What is Cadence Whistle?
plays where the judgment of ILLEGAL vs. MARGINAL is not needed
What is Guideline Plays (Absolutes)?
the defender that helps defend the ball after the PRIMARY DEFENDER is beaten
What is Secondary Defender?
the 90 degree angle where the free throw line and the LANE LINE intersect
What is Elbow?
thought process when determining a foul or not on plays to the basket
What is Start, Develop, Finish?
where two or more players are involved in an ENGAGED match-up (ON or OFF BALL)
What is Action Area?
stands for ‘RHYTHM-SPEED-BALANCE-QUICKNESS’
What is RSBQ?
the defender that is guarding the ball at the start of the play
What is Primary Defender?
a POSITION ADJUSTMENT towards division line when ball comes into PRIMARY (CENTER/TRAIL)
What is Top Side?
refers to the side of the court opposite of where the scorer’s table is located
What is Opposite Table?
the lines (along with the free throw line) that create the boundaries for the paint area, FAR and NEAR depends on location on the court
What is Lane Lines (Far and Near)?
painted square block located on the LANE LINE near the end line, position closest to basket
What is Low Block?
refers to the side of the court where the scorer’s table is located
