BCFR provides just over 30 services. Through the Medicaid Waiver an additional array of services are available. Persons served work with their Support Coordinator to determine the best combination of services to meet their unique needs.

In its third year, this skills training program for youth with developmental disabilities, is set on the Columbia College campus and covers a variety of topics such as personal finance, fitness, apartment planning, advocacy skill and workplace expectations.

Transition Network is a series of classes through the Life & Work Connections program. In 2015, 34 individuals participated in the courses offered. Many participants credit Transition Network for helping them achieve personal goals such as living in on their own.

    BCFR contracts with 63 service providers such as occupational, physical and speech therapists, and many others to meet the needs of the increasing number of persons we serve.

    BCFR pays for recreational opportunities for persons served such as horseback riding, swimming, art classes, dancing, gymnastics, summer camp and more.

    BCFR coordinates the team of family members, teachers, therapists and others to create a plan that is designed to connect persons served to needed supports while also focusing on their abilities and potential.

    This BCFR program not only teaches independent living skills, but also helps persons served work on job skills through an on-site training program at BCFR.
    What is Life & Work Connections program?

    Participants in Life & Work Connections get paid for on-the-job training that focuses on teaching the soft skills necessary for any job in the community such as communication, punctuality, teamwork and staying on task.

    In 2003, BCFR acquired and renovated 16 residential apartments for accessibility and aging in place. This rehabilitation project was nominated for a national award by this Federal government agency.

    The two 8-plex apartment buildings are part of a group of 5 buildings that are home to participants in BCFRs Supported Living residential program. The apartments are staffed round the clock to help people with the activities of everyday life.

    The two new apartment complexes will feature one and two-bedroom units and will be located at Apple Tree Lane on the south side of Columbia and St. Joseph Street, one block from BCFR's main office in the North Village Arts District of Columbia. Construction is set to begin this summer.
