These are deducted from your pay cheque in the same way as deductions are made for income tax, pension contributions, EI premiums, and sent to the union by your employer and are tax deductible.

Dues are the union’s main source of funding. Without dues the union could not function. The dues formula is set by your fellow members in a vote at Convention. BCNU dues are currently set at two per cent of gross straight-time earnings.

This program is designed to support members suffering from an occupational or non-occupational illness or injury. Participants will have a holistic case management plan that may include medical intervention, transitional work, a graduated return to work, workplace modifications and vocational rehabilitation or training.

This process begins by meeting with your steward and deciding whether to proceed. Then you and your steward will meet with an employer representative. Most of these filed each year are settled early in the process.

If you are faced with a complaint about your professional conduct, BCNU may help you cover the cost of some of your legal fees and assist you in dealings with your professional association. This service is available to all members, but certain restrictions do apply.

2,125 new positions were negotiated in the 2012-2014 agreement. How many new positions were recently negotiated to be in effect by Dec 2019?

  • What is 1,026 new FTE positions for RNs and RPNs will be created 
  • 226 new FTE positions for LPNs will be created.
  • Together, this is a combined increase of an additional 2,440, 854 straight-time nursing hours into the system.
  • 80% of all new nurse positions will be regular status.
