What is body acceptance/gratitude?

Body acceptance is not loving, liking, disliking, or hating your body. It is the middle ground neutral territory of how you see or treat your body. It is acknowledging it is real, has a story, has carried you through things and continues to carry you through. It is expressing gratitude for all it has done and is doing for you even if you aren't fully satisfied with it or love it (that's okay). It is showing your body compassion and kindness to accept it for how it looks, how it is functioning, what it needs, etc, in the now. Everyday we may not love or like or bodies, the goals is to get to neutral place at least and be patient and kind to it.

Should you care for others so much that you sacrifice or neglect your own health and wellness needs?

Big negative. "You can't pour from an empty cup" Taking care of you is what can help you support others and be well in the process. When helping others, it is important to know how to gauge and honor your capacity, strengths, limitations, and needs. Additionally, know when higher level of professional care is needed for the person you are supporting.

You are not crisis support and boundaries when helping others keeps you safe and well.

  • Emotional responses: The amygdala is primarily responsible for emotional responses, especially fear, anxiety, and rage. It's also involved in regulating aggression, emotional memory, and social cognition.

  • Learning: The amygdala plays a role in learning through rewards and punishment, and in implicit memory, which allows you to remember how to do things without remembering how you learned them.
  • Decision-making: The amygdala guides decision-making and impulse control.
  • Memory storage: The amygdala determines which memories are stored in the brain.
  • Social communication: The amygdala helps you understand and interpret other people's intentions based on their actions and speech.
