Arm's length (Must be within arm’s length reach at all times. Staff must be able to monitor for instances of PICA, this includes sitting next to David while in the van)

At the start of each waking shift what should staff prompt CS to do?
Staff should prompt CS to the bathroom to ensure that he is properly cleaned to reduce the likelihood of discomfort and agitation. Staff should follow CS' toileting/wiping protocol.

When should DK's helmet be applied and for how long?
When he engages in SIB-Head High (from a distance of 6 inches or more with significant force) and for 5 minutes (set a timer) if there is no further SIB-Head High. An occurrence report should always be written if the helmet is applied!
When AR is in the day program building and out in the community he is arm's length and when using the bathroom he is line of sight.
What are two antecedent strategies in CS' BSP?
Enriched/engaging environment, increased choice, toileting/hygiene checks, environmental modifications: keep temp. below 74 degrees, access to water, visual supports, and to relocate to quieter area if environment is loud

What is one antecedent strategy in DK's BSP?
Increased choice, access to preferred items, environment modification/manipulation, enriched/engaged environment, and staff and social engagement
What is the antecedent strategy of environmental modification/manipulation for food-stealing and elopement?
When entering a new building or environment with Alex- Staff must conduct a visual room sweep (scan the area) for all entry-way/exits as well as edible items that do not belong to Alex.
What does CS' support fading criteria?
Contingent on Connor engaging in self-injury, aggression, or property destruction, staff will remain physically near Connor with a blocking pad to intervene and block to the best of their ability during all subsequent attempts. Staff should set a timer for 2 minutes after the last occurrence of self-injury, aggression, and/or property destruction and begin to fade themselves away from Connor only after 2 minutes has passed without the occurrence of self-injury, property destruction, and aggression.
Do you bring JLG's contact out into the community?
Yes, it is a tool to help manage any potential challenging behaviors
What materials should be in DM's emergency bag?
DM's seizure action plan, his seizure medication, a timer, towel, and blocking pad
What is planned ignoring?
Planned ignoring means to ignore the maladaptive behavior at hand (perseveration). Therefore, if David continues to make perseverative requests after the 2nd response and/or acknowledgement is provided, staff should not leave David alone in the corner, turn their back to David, walk away from David, etc. Staff should withhold verbal attention to the perseverative requests/comments, and instead redirect the conversation to a different topic, ask David various random questions, redirect David to a new activity, prompt David to engage in conversation with a peer, etc.
What is AR's reinforcement/consequent-based strategy for elopement if AR is non-compliant with staff instruction/redirection?
Staff will initially attempt to block with light physical gestures back to the designated area but will not force Alex to remain in the area. If Alex uses more force than the light physical guidance, then staff will become hands off and follow Alex to the new location. Once Alex is at the new location, staff will provide his communication board and will remind Alex, “First work, then ____”, or “First we have to go back to get our belongings, then we can go ____.” Staff will continue to provide these prompts/reminders until compliance is observed
If CS is engaging to loud vocalizations and crying what should staff immediately do?
Call for assistance and immediately remove clients/peers/community members from the area and blocking pads/protective equipment should be readily available.

What is one antecedent strategy can staff use to prevent DM's drink stealing?
- When entering a new building/environment staff must conduct a room/environment sweep
- Direct DM away from drinks/liquid whenever possible
- Beverages should be removed from the environment if possible or place them where staff can readily block DM drink stealing
If DK uses FCT and he makes a request that is not able to be provided at the moment, how do staff respond?
Staff will provide praise to David for appropriately communicating, but will let David know that unfortunately the requested item/activity/location is unavailable at that time, as well as provide an explanation as to when the item/activity/location will become available (or provide alternatives if the item will not become available at any point in time).
What is AR's reinforcement/consequence-based strategy for food stealing at day program/community?
Staff will block and redirect Alex to the activity occurring beforehand or the prescribed activity on his schedule. Staff will ignore the behavior at-hand, while redirecting Alex to his communication board and prompt him to tell us what he would like (utilizing least-to-most prompting). Staff must follow the prescribed FCT protocol above. If Alex darts towards others in the community to take others’ food/drinks, follow trained QBS procedures as needed while being mindful of your balance and positioning. Staff should always be positioned between others and Alex at all times. (Elbow check)
What is at least one thing staff should not do while CS is engaging in challenging behaviors?
Staff should not provide a lot of verbal prompting/directions, have multiple staff talk to CS, provide snacks, preferred items, or other's personal belongings during the behavior, or verbally draw attention to the behavior.
