What are evidence based clinical work practices published by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to be used by team members for all patients despite the isolation category. It should be assumed that every person is potentially infected or colonized with an organism that could be transmitted in the healthcare setting.  These precautions must be used for every patient contact and when handling secretions, excretions and/or blood.

Examples include: hand hygiene, gloves, masks, eye protection, gowns, respiratory hygiene, prevention of exposure to bloodborne and respiratory pathogens ne/cough etiquette, handling of patient care equipment and environmental control.
