An Anti-Federalists is a person who believed that the federal government should have more power than state governments.

Anti-Federalists believed that state governments should have more power. Federalists believed that the federal government should have more power.
The U.S. Government has three branches: The president, the Executive, and the Judicial.
UM ACTUALLY
The branches of the U.S. Government are: The Executive, Legislative, and Judicial.
The First Amendment protects you from unlawful search and seizure.
The First Amendment protects your personal freedoms like freedom of speech, assembly, religion, and the press.
People moved to the American West because the East coast made them sad.
UM ACTUALLY:
People moved to the American West because of the Frontier Myth and increased opportunities like less racism, less poverty, and free land.
The Missouri Compromise banned trains in the North
UM ACTUALLY:
The Missouri Compromise banned slavery in the North.
The 3/5ths Compromise was a deal between the founding fathers that each Native American only counted as 3/5ths of a person when counting for representation in Congress.
The 3/5ths Compromise stated that each enslaved person was counted as 3/5ths of a person. Native Americans were not counted at all.
Judicial Review is the president's power to write laws.
UM ACTUALLY:
Judicial Review is the Supreme Court's power to remove laws that are unconstitutional.
The Whiskey Rebellion proved that states could choose to not follow the federal government's laws after George Washington failed to respond to the rebels in Pennsylvania.
The Whiskey Rebellion proved that the states had to follow the laws because George Washington brought a militia to Pennsylvania
The Louisiana Purchase decreased the size of the United States
UM ACTUALLY:
The Louisiana Purchase doubled the size of the U.S.
Alexander Hamilton thought that the National Bank was a bad idea because he wanted people to make money from farming not investing.
UM ACTUALLY, Alexander Hamilton came up with the idea for the National Bank. Thomas Jefferson wanted people to make money from farming.
The Bill of Rights was written by the Anti-Federalists because they wanted to protect the power of the federal government during conflict.
The Bill of Rights was meant to protect the individual freedoms and rights of individuals from the federal government.
Checks and Balances means that the Executive branch has more power than all of the other branches.
UM ACTUALLY
Checks and balances means that each branch can stop the other branch from having too much power.
Proportional Representation means that the number of votes a state has in the House of Representatives is equal for all states.
Proportional Representation means that the number of votes a state has in the House of Representatives is based on their population.
There was no argument about whether or not Thomas Jefferson could constitutionally buy the Louisiana Territory.
UM ACTUALLY
Congress did have an argument about whether or not it was constitutional for Jefferson to purchase the Louisiana Territory.
During the Nullification Crisis South Carolina was the only state that willingly paid their tariffs
UM ACTUALLY:
South Carolina refused to pay their taxes and threatened to secede after Andrew Jackson threatened to send in the army.
The Fugitive Slave Clause legally protected enslaved people who freed themselves by escaping into states where slavery was illegal.
UM ACTUALLY
The Fugitive Slave Clause said that if any person was caught escaping from slavery they would be returned to enslavement.
George Washington was the first president and served four terms. He also set the precedent that a president should have a cabinet and transition power peacefully.
UM ACTUALLY, George Washington only served two terms as president.
The Fifth Amendment protects your right to due process. Due Process means that the government does not have to prove that you're guilty, they can just say you are.
Manifest Destiny is the idea that Americans shouldn't expand their country because it would be too big to support.
UM ACTUALLY, Manifest Destiny is the idea that Americans are destined by God to expand and spread their beliefs.
The Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 allowed the the President to imprison people for saying things he didn't like and deport people from foreign countries if the U.S. was at war. These laws were super popular and actually got John Adams elected again.
UM ACTUALLY, people really hated these laws and led to John Adams not getting elected and his whole political party falling apart.
The Virginia Plan said there should be equal representation in Congress.

The New Jersey Plan said there should be equal representation. The Virginia plan said there should be proportional representation.
Each branch of government has it's own powers:

The Great Compromise was an agreement between the Northern and Southern states that prevented the Southern states from having too much power in Congress. This compromise stated that Southern states could have equal representation while Northern states had proportional representation.
UM ACTUALLY
The Great Compromise combined the New Jersey and Virginia Plans so that every state had proportional representation in the House of Representatives and equal representation in the Senate.
During the Mexican American War abolitionists did not want Texas to become a state because they thought that it would be too expensive to protect.
UM ACTUALLY, abolitionists did not want Texas to join the U.S. because it would become a slave state and give slaveholders more power.
The War of 1812 made Americans dislike their country.
UM ACTUALLY, the War of 1812 increased patriotism/nationalism/made Americans more proud of their country.
