This man was the son of Isaac and Rebekah. He gave away his birthright—a special blessing from his father—for a bowl of stew. He became so jealous of his twin brother, Jacob, that he planned to kill him

An orphan who became queen of Persian King Ahasuerus. She risked her life to report a plot formed to destroy the Jews.

The mother of the prophet Samuel. In prayer, she promised Jehovah that if she had a son, she would bring him to serve at the tabernacle.

Hannah

He and Dathan and Abiram rebelled against Jehovah when they challenged Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. He along with 250 other men offered incense at the tabernacle. Jehovah executed them, showing that Aaron alone was to serve as high priest of Israel.

Korah

This man, the oldest son of Jacob, convinced his nine brothers not to kill their brother Joseph. However, because he did not have self-control and proper respect for his father, he lost the place of honor as the firstborn son of Jacob.

The father of Judge Samson. After an angel told his wife that she would give birth to a son, this man prayed for guidance on how to raise Samson.

She was the wife of Moses. They met at a well in Midian, where Moses showed great kindness to her and her sisters. After she married Moses, she had two sons named Gershom and Eliezer.

This man, the nephew of Abraham, lived in the city of Sodom. Although “the men of Sodom were bad and were gross sinners against Jehovah,” he was a “righteous man.”

Lot

The first man of faith listed in the Bible. He proved that he wanted God’s favor by offering an acceptable sacrifice. Although the Bible does not record anything he said, his example and faith set a pattern for us.

Abel

A faithful king who repaired and reopened God’s temple, destroyed objects of false worship, and urged people to observe the Passover. Despite the bad example of his father, King Ahaz, this man “kept sticking to Jehovah.”—

Hezekiah

An outstanding judge in Israel who delivered the Israelites from their enemies. He was cautious, but he courageously relied on Jehovah. His army, though outnumbered 450 to 1, defeated the Midianites, Amalekites, and Easterners.

Gideon

He was the courageous spokesman for his brother, Moses, when they appeared before Pharaoh. Jehovah later appointed this man to be Israel’s first high priest.

Though heir to the throne and likely 30 years older than David, this man supported David as God’s king-designate.

Jonathan

Though his father, Amon, was bad, this man did “what was right in Jehovah’s eyes.” He chose to listen to those who loved God rather than to those who were bad association. His humility and appreciation for true worship brought him God’s favor

Josiah

A man “blameless and upright” in God’s eyes. Though his wife and others pressured him, he never turned away from serving God. His perseverance and happy outcome give us the courage to endure our trials loyally

Job

During a famine that affected Bethlehem, she moved with her family to Moab. After her husband and two sons died, she returned with her daughter-in-law Ruth to Bethlehem. Ruth gathered food for her, and she helped Ruth to settle there and marry.

Naomi

This man, the son of Isaac and Rebekah, was Esau’s twin brother. He received a special blessing from his father, and Jehovah promised him that his descendants would become a great nation.  

Jacob

An outstanding judge who defended Israel for 20 years. Jehovah used this man to “take the lead in saving Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

Samson

Son of Nun. He ministered to Moses and was later appointed to lead Israel. He fearlessly led God’s people into the Promised Land. He trusted Jehovah’s promises, obeyed his direction, and served him faithfully

A faithful prophet, who made the worship of God a family activity. He set a good example for them by the way he carried out his ministry. His wife was called “the prophetess.
