This is like some people. They hear the teaching of God. But Satan quickly comes and takes away the teaching that was planted in them.

Why were the disciples panicking and having little faith during the big storm?
The disciples had seen Jesus do amazing things, like heal sick people. But they had never seen him control the weather before. So, even though they believed in him, they hadn't realized how powerful he truly was, even over something as huge as a storm.
“What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, promise God that you will not punish me!” What was the punishment he was afraid of?
They knew that one day, they would be finally and forever punished. The Bible talks about a place of "eternal fire" or "lake of fire" prepared for the devil and his angels (which is what these demons are). They knew that this was their final destination.
Some seed fell on rocky ground where there wasn’t much dirt. The seed grew very fast there because the ground was not deep. But when the sun rose, the plants withered. The plants died because they did not have deep roots. What does this mean?
They hear the teaching and quickly accept it with joy. But they don’t allow the teaching to go deep into their lives. They keep it only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the teaching, they quickly give up.

The people were frightened. Some people were there who saw what Jesus had done. They told the others what had happened to the man who had the demons living in him. They also told about the pigs. Then the people began to beg Jesus to leave their area.
Some other seed fell among thorny weeds. The weeds grew and choked the good plants. So those plants did not make grain. What does this mean?
Others are like the seed planted among the thorny weeds. They hear the teaching. But then other things come into their lives: worries, the love of money, and wanting all kinds of other things. These things stop the teaching from growing. So that teaching does not produce fruit in their lives.
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its salty taste, it cannot be made salty again. It is good for nothing. It must be thrown out for people to walk on. What does this mean?
Just like tasteless salt isn't useful for making food yummy or preserving things, a person who stops being a good influence isn't helping the world in the way they could. They no longer serve their purpose.
What is the lesson in this story?
that even when things look super scary and out of control, if Jesus is with us, we can trust that he has everything under control.
