Can species diversity always ensure ecosystem stability, or are there situations where high diversity might still lead to instability?

While species diversity generally promotes ecosystem stability, it does not always guarantee it. If an ecosystem has many species but these species function similarly and are sensitive to the same environmental changes, the ecosystem could still be vulnerable. Additionally, diversity alone may not prevent instability if key species that regulate ecosystem processes are lost.
