Father of Evolution
Charles Darwin
Why did the pocket mice change fur color over time?
Mutations in DNA produce different phenotypes in the mice.
A form of evidence for evolution- studies remains in rock layers.

Change over time
Evolution
Where organisms evolve to have traits that are helpful for survival and reproduction in a specific environment
Adaptation
An organ/body part that is no longer needed for the full function of the organism today.
Vestigial Organs
Type of evolution that shows a common ancestor, yet they start to look slightly different from one another over time
Divergent

low taper fade
The location and organism that Darwin studied.

How does bacteria become resistant to certain antibiotics
Natural selection. Most die when exposed to antibiotic, a few live, therefore passing the resistance trait. Over time, more and more of the bacteria in the population have the resistance, and the antibiotic no longer works as well.
Evidence that compares the structure of different species. Specifically, how a two organisms can have common structures showing that they come from a common ancestor. For example, a human arm and a dolphin fin are similar.
Homologous structures
This type of evidence involves body structures that seem "out of place" or not needed.
Coevolution
Thanks a lot...
you IDIOT. Thanks a lot rachel. Thanks ALOT.
Main mechanism for evolution.
Natural selection, Mutation, and Adaptation
Provide an example of how natural selection can lead to adaptation in a predator-prey relationship.
Ex: Cheetah and gazelle
Ex: Fox and the bunny
Ex: Hawk and mice
Most eukaryotic organisms are very similar at early stages of development showing that they likely have a common ancestor
How embryology provides evidence for evolution
What are the four main eras of geological time in order from oldest to newest.
Precambrian
Paleozoic
Mesozoic
Cenozoic

What kind of adaptation is seen when a snake responds to a external threat and releases venom!
Physiological
Method by which scientists determine the age of fossils and other geological formations as evidence of evolution.
Radiometric Dating
This category of evidence looks at similarities in DNA, proteins, and amino acid sequences.
Molecular Homology or Biochemical Evidence
In the ocean surrounding Antarctica, there are certain types of sharks that survive the cold water by using a molecule made of glycoproteins that circulates the blood and keeps it from freezing. Certain kinds of dolphins that live in the Arctic ocean also make antifreeze proteins that help them live in icy water. They are not the same but develop to have similar structures.
