What are Producers?

Organisms that create their own energy through photosynthesis.

100

What is a Food chain?

A linear network of links in a food web starting from producer organisms, to specific predators, detritivores, or decomposer species. Food chains also show how organisms relate to each other by what they consume and eat.

100

What does and herbivore eat?

An animal that feeds on plants

200

What are consumers?

Consumers consume other organisms’ energy to gain their energy.

200

What is a food web?

A natural connection of food chains and a representation of who or what eats what in the system.

200

what does a carnivore eat?

“Meat eaters” - While some carnivore organisms only eat meat, others supplement their diet with vegetation occasionally.

300

what is the energy pyramid

A representation designed to show the biomass and bioproductivity at each trophic level in any given ecosystem.

300

What is the 10% rule?

The 10% rule states that between one trophic level to the next, there is only 10% of energy passed.

Example: For example, if producers have 10,000j, then only 1,000 is passed to primary consumers.

What does an autotroph eat?

An organism that is able to form simple organic compounds/substances from other simple organic substances.

400

What does an heterotroph eat?

An organism that cannot produce its own food. They consume producers or other consumers.
