What are cells?

Cells are the basic units of life.

100

What is Photosynthesis?

Photosynthesis is the process where autotrophs (an organism that has the ability to make its own food) convert light energy into chemical energy, using sunlight.

100

What is DNA?

DNA is a Nucleic Acid.

The monomer of a nucleic acid is a nucleotide.

The function is to provide instructions for making proteins.

100

What is competition?

Competition is the struggle between organisms for limited resources in their environment. Can be between the same species or different species

100

What is Deforestation?

What is the cause and effect?

Cause; Human are removing trees to make room for new homes, using it for lumber, clear cutting for agriculture, and expanding businesses/roads.

Effect; Loss of habitat for animals (decreases biodiversity) and this upsets the carbon cycle. No photosynthesis to remove excess carbon. Also, increases erosion (loss of soil).

200

What living things carry Eukaryotic Cells?

All animals, plants, and fungi.

200

Where does Cellular Respiration take place?

It starts in the cytoplasm and moves to the Mitochondria if Oxygen is present.

200

Complementaty Base Pairing;

What pairs up with the letter,

A -?

C-?

T-?

G-?

Correct answers are,

A-T

C-G

T-A

G-C

What is Territoriality?

Territoriality is defending physical space against other animals.

- Reduces competition for scarce resources (Land, mates).

200

What is the Carbon Cycle?

Write down before looking at the answer?

The Carbon Cycle tracks the progress of carbon in molecules from gas to solid and back again.

Humans change the balance of the Carbon cycle by burning fossil fuels.

300

What does the Mitochondria create for the cell?

The Mitochondria creates ATP for the cell

300

What is the Photosynthesis formula?

(Write it down before checking answer).

6CO2+6H2O-C6H12O6+602

Reactants: Carbon Dioxide, Water, & Sunlight

Products: Glucose & Oxygen

300

What is RNA made of?

RNA is made of ribose sugar.

300

What are Symbiotic Relationships?

Symbiosis: a relationship between two organisms that live close together in which one or both benefit.

300

What is the Nitrogen Cycle?

Write down before looking at the answer?

Decomposition; Decomposers such as bacteria and fungi break down dead organisms and return nitrogen to the soil.

400

What does a Sperm Cell spealize in?

The sperm uses the flagella and mitchondria for its function of swimming to fertilize an egg.
400
What is Cellular Respiration?

The process by which Cells make ATP (energy) by breaking down organic compounds (food).

400

Translate the following code; (write down before moving on)

1. A T G C A G G C A T

2. G C T T A A G T C A G C

The correct answers are;

1. T A C G T C C G T A

2. C G A A T T C A G T C G

Animal Behavior-Insight Learning

What is Insight Learning?

Insight Learning;

applying pre-known knowledge to a new situation.

Most complex!

400

Non-Renewable and Renewable Resources.

Renewable Resources: Are replenished naturally and over relatively short periods of time.

Nonrenewable Energy Resources: Are avaliable in limited supplies. This is usually due to the long time it takes for them to replenished.

500

What does a Nerve Cell specialize in?

It conducts electrical impulses for communication.

500

What is the equation for Cellular Respiration?

(Write it down before checking).

6O2+C6H12O6--6CO2+36ATP

Reactants: Glucose and Oxygen

Products:Carbon Dioxide (waste),

Water and ATP (energy)

500

What Is A Mutation?

A mutation is a permanent change in an organism DNA sequence.

500

Example these three on a piece of paper:

Mutualism;

Parasitism;

Commensalism;

Answers;

Mutualism; both organisms benefit. Ex; The bee gets pollen and flower gets pollinated

Parasitism; one organism benefits and one is harmed, Ex; The flea takes away the mammal's blood ( and passes on disease, is itchy, etc..)

Commensalism; one benefits and the other is unaffected. Ex; The barnacle gets moved around, but isn't taking nutrients from or harming the whale.

500

What is Biomagnification?

What are the causes and effects?

Cause; Some substances build up in organsims

bodies instead of passing out, so they're found in increasing amounts higher on the food chain. DDT is a pesticide that does that.

Effect; Decreased the population of high trophic level birds (ex; eagles). It caused their eggs to be weak and they broke when sat on.
