1. Cannot be applied to fossils (preserved remains of dead

organisms cannot breed.

2. Cannot be applied to asexual organisms (no mating).

3. Not easy to observe mating behavior in the wild and check

offspring for fertility.

• DNA testing e.g. paternity tests

Artificial selection is the process in which humans deliberately isolate populations and selectively breed individuals with desirable characteristics to suit their needs.

In artificial selection humans select and favor

specific traits. E.g. plant & animal breeding
