What does the body do when the body temperature is extremely hot?

The blood vessels expand towards the skin, and ducts start producing sweat to cool the body down.

100

What does the body push for in childbirth?

Contractions

100

What is thermoregulation?

The maintenance of a stable internal body temperature to bring it to 37 C (98.6 F).

200

What does the body do when the body temperature is extremely low?

It brings all the blood to the core and contracts muscles.

200

When a scab occurs, what does the body push in order to repair the scab?

Platelets

200

What is a receptor?

Specialized cell that receives a specific stimulus and triggers a physiological response.

300

When blood glucose is high, what does the pancreas produce?

Insulin

300

When apples ripe, what chemical does the fruit produce?

Ethylene

300

What is the hypothalamus?

It is a part of the brain that helps control and coordinate the parts of the body so that it functions normally.

Describe what negative feedback loops are.

Negative feedback loops are a self regulating process that counterreacts a change inside the body system that is away from the desired set point.

400

Describe what positive feedback loops are.

Self-regulating process in which the body amplifies the original change in order to revert the body to its set point.

400

What are the effectors?

The effectors are any cell, tissue, organ or more that produces a direct response when the specific part gets stimulated.

500

What are some other negative feedback loops other than thermoregulation and blood glucose?

Blood Pressure, Gas Exchanges, Osmoregulation, etc.

What are the similarities and differences between positive feedback loops and negative feedback loops?

The similarities are the fact that self regulatory mechanisms that respond to changes internally and externally in order to bring the balance to a specific set point. Both also use the same components in order to identify the changes.

The differences are that negative feedback loops opposes the changes not in the set point. A positive feedback loop amplifies the change in order to bring teh changes back to the original set point.

What is osmoregulation?

It is the regulation of the water content inside the cell and body. If there is way too much water content, it would get rid of it through urine. If there is way too less water content, the body will instead send receptors signaling dehydration inside the body.
