The tundra is the ________ biome

Coldest

100

The desert is the ________ biome

Hottest

100

The rainforest is the most ___________ biome.

Threatened

100

What is the most common plant in the grasslands?

The most common plant in the grasslands is....grass!

100

What is the water like in freshwater biomes?

The water in freshwater biomes is less than 1% saltwater. This means we can drink it.

200

How many plant species are in the biome?

There are over 1,700 plant species that have adapted to live in the tundra.

200

What are the main challenges of living in the desert?

It is very hot, and this is rarely any precipitation. Finding water in this environment is very important to survival.

200

What is the weather like in tropical rainforests? Why?

The rainforest is hot and humid all year round. They are close to the equator, which makes them hot, and the consistent rainfall makes it humid and sticky.

200

What are the two seasons of the tropical grasslands?

The savanna has two seasons. Wet and dry seasons. It is hot year round, but there is much more precipitation in the wet season.

200

Why is there more life in the bottom of ponds than lakes?

The water is shallower in ponds, so more sunlight can reach the bottom. This means it is easier for plants to grow. Fish need plants for food and shelter.

300

How have animals adapted to live here?

They have:

-Thick fur

-Feathers

-Layers of fat

300

How have animals adapted to live in the desert?

Some animals will live in burrows underground to stay out of the sun.

Some animals have adaptations that help their bodies release heat.

300
What is causing deforestation?

Humans are cutting down a lot of the rainforest to make room for farms. Livestock need a lot of space to grow, or they are growing plants that harm the rainforest, but are easy to sell.

300

Why is it hard for trees to grow well in the grasslands?

There is not enough rainfall year-round for trees. Droughts make it even harder for trees to flourish.

300

How are the layers of the ocean different from each other?

As the sea level gets lower, there is a lot less sunlight. This makes it much colder and darker.

400

Why would solar panels not work more of the time here?

During the winter, the nights are extremely long. There will sometimes be no sun in some places. The days become very short and the nights long.

400

Why does the Bactrian camel eat snow?

The only precipitation in the Gobi desert is snow. This is the only water source. They can only eat 10 liters a day, or they will get sick.

Little and often.

400

Why is deforestation a problem?

The animals of the rainforest need the trees for their homes. Habitat loss is one of the largest reason for endangered species.

400

Why are wildfires a good thing for the Savanna?

Wildfires help clean out dead plants and fertilise the ground for new growth during the wet season. When is rains again, grass grows rapidly!

400

How do hydrothermal vents help animals in the abyssal zone?

The abyssal zone is minus 40 degrees celsius. Being close to the hydrothermal vents helps deep sea creatures grow and gather nutrients.

500

Why is it important to worry about melting ice if your house is here?

Climate change means the ice is melting more often because the Earth is getting hotter.

500

Why would you use a light-colored roof in the desert?

Light colours reflect the sunlight. If the roof reflects the heat, the house will stay cooler in the extreme heat.

500

What is fragmentation?

When an animal's habitat is shrunk or split into many pieces. Animals will go from having large areas to living in smaller spaces, with towns or dangerous roads breaking it up.

500

Why are wildfires becoming more of a problem?

Because of climate change, Earth is getting hotter, and there is less rainfall. This causes more droughts. When the grass is dry, wildfires are more common and spread much quicker!
500

What is an animal that makes its own light? Why does it do this?

Anglerfish use bioluminescence because there is no light that deep in the ocean. The sunlight does not reach that far.
