Story: He was at the convenience store, with a ski mask on because he had anemia, and the cashier called the police because they felt uneasy. The cashier said that no one was in danger and there were no weapons. Yet when the police arrived and he was walking out of the sore they stopped him. He told them he was going home and he offered his I.D., he told them that he was an introvert and that he didn’t want to be touched on his way home. After that the police detained him and the cameras stopped rolling. He repeatedly said “I couldn’t breath” as the police used a catoriod type of hold, which was designed to make someone unconscious. He was on life support in the hospital and was declared brain dead and he was taken off life support.
Outcome: The investigator said they could not determine his cause of death

10,000 Black residents lived in a neighborhood called Greenwood. There were luxury shops, restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, jewelry and clothing stories, movie theaters, barbershops and salons, a library, pool halls, nightclubs and offices for doctors, lawyers and dentists. Greenwood also had its own school system, post office, a savings and loan bank, hospital, and bus and taxi service. “It is said within Greenwood every dollar would change hands 19 times before it left the community,”. Destroyed by a white mob in the Tulsa Race Riots.

The woman,Carolyn Bryant, accused him of verbal and physical advances. After the encounter, later that night, he was taken from his home and lynched by two white men. These men mutilated his body to point where it was almost unrecognizable
Outcome: There was nothing done but Mamie, his mother, had an open casket funeral.

A black inventor and engineer who invented and patented the incandescent light bulb. This lightbulb had an encasing over the filament which prevented the carbon from breaking and thereby provided a much longer life to the bulb and made the bulbs less expensive and more efficient. This enabled electric lighting to be installed within homes and throughout streets.

On March 2, 1955, 15-year-old was sitting on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, when the driver asked her and three black schoolmates to give up the whole row so that a white woman could sit. She was the first to really challenge the law and got arrested for doing so.
