The covering over heart and proximal ends of large blood vessels
What is Pericardium (Pericardial Sac) ?
The thick-walled lower chambers; pump blood into arteries
What is Ventricles ?
Conducts impulses to AV Bundle; delays impulse, so that atria finish contracting before ventricles contract
What is AV Node ?
Receive blood from venules, and carry it back to the atria of the heart
What is Veins ?
Contraction of a heart chamber
What is Systole ?
What is Fibrous Pericardium ?
Receives blood from the right atrium; pumps blood to lungs
What is Right Ventricle ?
Conduct impulses from SA node to AV node
What is Junctional Fibers ?
Carry blood away from the ventricles of the heart
What is Arteries ?
Ventricular depolarization; occurs just prior to ventricular contraction
What is QRS Complex ?
The inner layer of serous membrane; attached to surface of heart
What is Visceral Pericardium ?
Receives blood from the pulmonary veins; pumps blood to to left ventricle
What is Left Atrium ?
Pacemaker; initiates rhythmic contractions of the
heart
What is SA Node ?
Sites of exchange of substances between the blood and the body cells
What is Capillaries ?
Transports oxygen-rich blood and nutrients to body cells, removes wastes from cells, flows back to heart
What is Systematic Circuit ?
The outer layer of serous membrane; deep to fibrous pericardium
What is Parietal Pericardium ?
The thin-walled upper chambers; receive blood returning to heart
What is Atria ?
Conducts impulses from SA node to atria
What is Internodal Atrial Muscle ?
Receive blood from the arteries, and carry it to the capillaries
What is Arterioles ?
During inspiration, as thoracic cavity enlarges, pressure falls below abdominal pressure; this helps blood flow upward toward heart
What is Respiratory Movements ?
The space between visceral and parietal layers of serous pericardium
What is Pericardial Cavity ?
The flap-like projections from atria, which allow atrial expansion
What is Auricles ?
Large fibers that conduct impulses to ventricular myocardium; conduct impulses to apex first; whorled pattern of muscle in ventricles contract with twisting motion
What is Purkinje Fibers ?
Receive blood from the capillaries, and conduct it to veins
What is Venules ?
Reduces arteriole diameter, increases PR, and increases blood pressure
What is Vasoconstriction ?
