Transition to the next class

Line up at door, with materials, on blue lines, silently.

ISS or Not:

Lucy calls Linus a cry-baby. After getting reset by Mr. B, Lucy tells Linus to quit crying.

Yes, Lucy would have ISS for baiting.

She was given a warning and continued to try and make Linus mad.

any others?

Name the school that Mr. B and Ms. Pye both went to

Vanderbilt!

Miss Pye graduated the year after Mr. B (although she is a year older!)

400

Regulation or Not:

Charlie is supposed to be doing his math worksheet, but is just sitting there staring at it after a few minutes. Miss Pye tells him to reset and that his direction was to complete his work. He says "no" in an angry voice and continues to stare at his paper.

It does seem like Charlie needs to regulate.

Even if he has a safe body, he is not speaking with good purpose towards Miss Pye or following directions and is showing some signs of dysregulation or frustration.

This would be Missing Work (and could escalate further) if he continues.

400

Demonstrate:

Using the safety zone during class

Ask first (verbally or nonverbally) and wait for a "yes"

Line up at door to wait for an adult

Safely and Quietly

400

ISS or Not:

Snoopy is asked to use the safety zone. While on his way, Snoopy yells "F this school".

No, not ISS. However, if he started and continued to call someone a profane name (such as "you f-ing b word) he would have ISS for baiting

Snoopy would have missing work for not regulating appropriately.

400

Demonstrate:

The correct way to use the peace corner

Ask first (and wait for a yes!), walk, use items responsibly.

Back to seat when timer is up, potentially after talking with an adult

400

What color team do we not have this year?

the orange team

Regulation or Not:

Woodstock is working on his social studies project. The work is getting really difficult and slams his pencil down on the table.

ALSO: What could he do instead?

YES, Woodstock needs to regulate. Slamming items is a sign you are dysregulated.

He could have asked for help, asked for a break, or put his head down to breathe.

500

This is the next step after a student does not regulate appropriately in class.

Regulate outside (hallway or safety zone)

If refusal to do so, then it is ISS for an ODA.

500

ISS or Not:

Class is getting boring for Snoopy. He crawls under his desk and picks at the chair. When Mr. B asks him if he needs a break, Snoopy does not respond. Mr. B asks him to use the safety zone. Snoopy remains in his area after a 1 minute timer.

Yes, Snoopy has an ODA because he was not in his designated area.

When asked to use the safety zone, you will have a minute to collect yourself and transition.
