What are tissues?
A tissue is a group of the same cells working together to do the same job.
100
List the four levels of Body Organization from smallest to largest.
cells, tissues, organs, organ systems
100
What is the word for keeping internal conditions stable?
Homeostasis
100
Name all four types of tissues and give an example of each.
Muscle tissue - muscles nervous tissue - taste buds (on your tongue) connective tissue - bones epithelial tissue - skin
100
What color is muscle tissue?
pink! (red will also work)
200
Draw and label all three parts of a cell.
Cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus.
200
Name one of the processes that happens inside a cell.
Possible answers: making food molecules into energy, getting rid of wastes, reproducing to make new cells
200
Give an example of homeostasis.
Example: when you are cold, you shiver. Your muscles moving when you shiver gives you additional warmth.
200
One day you are biking calmly down the street when suddenly, you are being chased by a huge dog! You freak out and bike really fast to get away. Explain how this situation relates to homeostasis.
When you got scared, stress happened and threatened homeostasis. Adrenaline was released in your bloodstream to give you more energy, your heart started beating faster, and you started breathing faster. This gave your body more oxygen to bike faster.
200
What type of tissue is fat?
connective tissue (It helps support your body and give you balance. Yes, fat is essential for you to survive.)
300
Define Homeostasis: [just write the letter] A) stable external conditions B) cell, tissues, organs, organ systems C) stable internal conditions D) adrenaline giving you energy
C) stable internal conditions
300
Name all the types of tissues and what each one does.
Muscle tissue helps your body to move. Nervous tissue helps you to sense things and thing. Connective tissue connects and supports parts of your body. Epithelial tissue covers parts of your body.
300
How does homeostasis help elephants keep cool?
Elephants have large ears, and many blood vessels in their ears. This helps them to loose heat from their blood easier (so they don't get overheated). Elephants also like to play in water and mud when they get too hot.
300
If you fall down and scrape your knee, what type of tissue has been damaged?
Your skin, epithelial tissue, has been damaged.
300
What is the average body temperature for a human?
37 C
400
What is stress? What happens when you are stressed?
Stress is your body reacting to challenging or threatening things. When you are stressed, your heart may beat faster, you may sweat, or you might start breathing faster.
400
Explain the difference between organs and organ systems and give an example of each.
An organ is made of different types of tissues that work to do the same job. Your heart is an organ. An organ system is made of different organs working together to do one big job. The circulatory system is an organ system, and the heart is one of the organs in it.
400
Explain what happens when you are stressed. How does it affect homeostasis?
When you are stressed, your heart may start beating faster, you might sweat or breath faster. Adrenaline in your body gives you extra energy. Stress happens when homeostasis is threatened.
400
What does the nucleus of a cell do? How is this similar to your brain?
The nucleus of a cell controls the cell and has all the DNA information of your body inside. Your brain controls your body and also stores information inside it.
400
How do dolphins keep warm when they are in cold water?
Dolphins have a layer of fat below their skin called "blubber". This keeps them warm even when they are in ice water.
500
What is connective tissue? Give an example.
Connective tissue connects and supports parts of the body, such as bones.
500
Name all levels of Body Organization and give an example of each.
Sample Answer: cell - muscle cell tissue: muscular tissue organ - heart organ system - circulatory system
500
What is adrenaline? How does it relate to homeostasis?
Adrenaline is a chemical that give you a boost of energy (like if you drink a cup of coffee right before bedtime). If you are feeling stressed, your body may release adrenaline into your bloodstream to give you extra energy.
500
What organ systems do you use when you swim in a race? Explain how each one contributes to your body.
muscular system - to move you through the water respiratory system - to help you breath at the right times nervous system - to help you sense your surroundings (the pool) and know how to react to them (swim!)
500
Choose one thing you have learned in lesson one, and explain how it shows God's inteligence.
Sample Answer: The way that the four types of tissue work together in the heart to give us life show how God is intelligent to create us this way.
