the framework of bones and other tissues that supports the body

a combination of body defenses made up of all the cells, tissues, and organs that fight pathogens that enter the body

the command center, or coordinator, of the nervous system
What is a brain?
a type of connecting tissue that holds bones to other bones at the joint
What is a ligament?
the muscle that acts as the pump for the circulatory system
What is a heart?
a digestive juice produced by the salivary glands in your mouth
What is saliva?
the ability to resist the pathogens that cause a particular disease
What is immunity?
cells that make up the nervous system
What are neurons?
the places where two or more bones meet
What is a joint?
carry blood away from the heart to various parts of the body
What are arteries?
proteins that affect the many body processes
What are enzymes?
the body's response to injury or disease, resulting in a condition of swelling, pain, heat, and redness
What is inflammation?
the nerves that connect the central nervous system to all the parts of the body
What is a peripheral nervous system?
a strong, flexible tissue that allows joints to move easily, cushions the bones, and supports soft tissues
What is cartilage?
carry blood from all parts of the body and to the heart
What are veins?
the process by which the body breaks down food into smaller pieces that can be absorbed by the blood and sent to each cell in your body

a secondary circulatory system that helps the body fight pathogens and maintains its fluid balance
What is a lymphatic system?
a long bundle of neurons that send messages to and from the brain and all parts of the body
What is a spinal cord?
a type of connecting tissue that joins muscles to bones and muscles to muscles
