We sit as a pair on the top of your head,
Protecting the brain where thoughts are bred.
Left and right we form the dome,
Guarding the mind inside its home.
Parietal Bones
Light and spongy deep inside,
Between the eyes is where I hide.
Helping shape the nasal way,
I guide the air you breathe each day.
Ethmoid
Across the chest I stretch with pride,
Connecting arm to body’s side.
Often broken in a fall alone,
Many call me the collarbone.
Clavicle
From shoulder down toward elbow bend,
I help the upper arm extend.
The longest bone within the arm,
Helping lift with strength and charm.
Humerus
The broad hip bone you feel up high,
Supporting organs deep inside.
Part of the pelvis strong and wide,
Helping legs attach with pride.
Ilium
I form your forehead proud and wide,
Above your eyes is where I reside.
I help shape sockets where eyes can see,
A strong front shield protecting thee.
Frontal
I’m tiny but important near your eye,
Helping tears to pass nearby.
In the socket wall I stay,
Guiding tears that fall away.
Lacrimal
Flat and wide upon your back,
Helping shoulders stay on track.
When arms lift high or move around,
My steady support can always be found.
Scapula
A joint that bends when arms must move,
Allowing flexion smooth to prove.
Though not one bone alone you see,
It helps the arm bend easily.
Elbow
A joint that joins the pelvis tight,
With slight movement left and right.
Right in front the bones unite,
Holding hips together just right.
Symphysis Pubis or Pubic Symphysis
On either side beside your ears,
I help you hear both far and near.
Protecting structures deep inside,
Along your skull I gently lie.
Temporal
Small bones forming nose’s bridge,
Right in front upon the ridge.
If you bump me, pain may grow,
For I help shape the human nose.
Nasal
Down the center of the chest I lie,
Where many ribs attach nearby.
A shield for organs deep inside,
Protecting heart and lungs with pride.
Sternum
On the inner side I run,
From elbow down when work is done.
Helping form the elbow’s bend,
Beside my partner to the end.
Ulna
At the bottom of the spine I stay,
A tiny tail from long ago’s way.
Though small in size I still remain,
The final bone of the spinal chain.
Coccyx
At the back of the skull I stand my ground,
Protecting vision and brain around.
Where neck and head connect just right,
I guard the brain from behind in sight.
Occipital
I hold the teeth along the top,
Helping chewing never stop.
The upper jaw is what I make,
A bone essential when you speak or break.
Maxilla
The smallest tip at sternum’s end,
A point where muscles often blend.
At the bottom center I remain,
A tiny piece yet still part of the frame.
Xiphoid Process
On the thumb side I reside,
Helping wrists rotate and glide.
Turning palms from up to down,
I help your forearm spin around.
Radius
The longest bone you’ll ever see,
From hip to knee supporting thee.
Strong and thick I help you stand,
The powerhouse bone of the land.
Femur
Shaped like wings deep in the base,
Holding skull bones all in place.
Hidden well but strong and wide,
Many bones to me are tied.
Sphenoid
I’m the jaw that moves with ease,
Helping chew your favorite cheese.
The only skull bone that can glide,
Opening wide from side to side.
Mandible
Curved like bars around the chest,
Guarding organs while you rest.
Moving gently when you breathe,
A cage of bones beneath your sleeve.
Ribs
Between your wrist and fingers long,
I help the hand stay firm and strong.
Forming palms where objects rest,
Helping grip your very best.
Metacarpals
A tiny shield in front of knee,
Protecting bends when you kneel or flee.
Sliding smoothly when you bend,
Guarding joints again and again.
