It can be that your parents give you 10 minutes to clean up. Your parent says that you have to leave at 5:00 PM. Your parent gives you 15 minutes to play at the park. You tell your sibling that you can play for 10 more minutes before you have to start homework.
Good or Bad: You let your sister borrow your toy, and you ask for it back after 20 minutes. She refuses to give it back. You decide to just let her play with it instead of arguing.
Bad boundary. This is an example of bad material boundaries because you let her borrow it and she didn't return it. To make this a good boundary, you can say "I know you like playing with that toy, and it is mine and I'm asking to please have it back."

Good or Bad Boundary: You are crossing the street with your parent and they ask you "Please slow down, so I can make sure you're safe.". You say "Yes" and slow down and walk next to your parent.
Good boundary. You used active listening skills, communicated, used respectful language, and then slowed down your walking.

Good or Bad Boundary: You and a friend are talking about which video game is better. You both can't agree on the best video game and you call your friend "stupid" for their opinion on video games.
Bad Boundary. This is a violation of your friend's intellectual boundaries because you are not respecting their opinion on the topic. Instead of calling your friend "stupid", you could say "I respectul your opinion and I disagree."

What is an intellectual boundary?

You respect others opinions even if you disagree. People respect your opinions even if they disagree. You respect another indiviudals religion, values, or politics even if they aren't the same as yours.
Good or Bad Boundary: You and your sibling get doughnuts at the bakery. You get glazed doughnut and your sibling gets a jelly filled-doughnut. Your sibling doesn't like their doughnut and asks if they can have yours and you say "No, I am going to eat my doughnut, but you can ask dad if you can have a different doughnut."
Good boundary. This is a good emotional boundary because you were respectful towards your sibling and didn't engage in people pleasing by giving up your doughnut.

Good vs. Bad Boundary: You want to go vent to your parent about how difficult today was at school. Your parent says that they are on the phone right now and can't talk but will come talk to you afterwards. You don't listen and instead continue to talk while the parent is on the phone.
Bad Boundary: You are not respecting the parent's physical boundary and emotional boundary of not being able to talk right now.
