Who is the Church??
WE ARE!!!
Everyone who wants to follow Jesus is the Church, even those who don't go to our Church. Jesus unites us all, even if they are far away!!
Dress up nice for Church?
(Why can't we go in our pajamas???)
We dress up for Christ
To eat breakfast or have a treat right before going to Mass
We fast (don't eat or drink anything except water) one hour before receiving the Eucharist so that we receive Jesus and nothing else
(Don't need Jesus to be digesting alongside some Oreos..........)
What is it called when the priest or deacon speaks for a long time and sometimes tells stories?
The homily!
Usually he is teaching about the readings and how they relate to our lives
What is Advent?
The 4 weeks leading up to Christmas; we prepare our hearts and make room for Jesus just like Mary & Joseph had to prepare and find room for Jesus
A priest and what makes them different than anyone else?
A priest is a man who has given his life over to serve God and God's people. He is ordained (given special powers) to give sacraments to others
Most notably, he gives us the Eucharist, Confession, Marriage, Baptism, & Anointing of the Sick

We learn about our faith so that we can love God more!
Just like we learn about our country, or the world, or our best friend - the more you know, the better you can love and serve them!
Taking the Lord's name in vain
(saying "Oh my Gosh" but saying God instead)
Because it is using God's name as a curse word, instead of using it to call Him
Receiving the Eucharist!
We are in communion with everyone in church and around the world when we all receive the Body of Christ!!!
A sin involves you doing it on purpose; you knew it was wrong and chose to do it anyways. You lost control or ignored your better judgement
A mistake means you genuinely didn't know it was wrong and had no control over the outcome; you would do things differently if you could.
The Trinity?
God the Father
Jesus the Son of the Father
the Holy Spirit that flows between God and Jesus and now flows through all of us
Dip our hand in water when we come into church
We bless ourselves with Holy Water to prepare for Mass
It reminds us of our Baptism!
Just going through the motions of our faith
(ex: sign of the cross, kneeling, family prayers, praying before eating, etc.)
We can do all those things without actually meaning it or doing it with our heart;
It is not the action that is our faith, but the meaning we give it.
Sign yourself with Holy Water; the priest walks in; we sing an entrance hymn; we say the Creed; we sing the Gloria; we listen to the Readings of the day
The Triduum?
The three days leading up to Easter:
Good Friday - day Jesus died
Holy Saturday - our whole day without Jesus
Easter Sunday - Jesus ROSE FROM THE DEEAAADDDD!
Your conscience?
An inner voice or prompting that tells us when we are sinning;
A feeling that guides to do the right thing
Talk about Saints/Celebrate All Saints Day?
Saints are role models for us. they teach us how we can live our lives totally for God
Saints can help us out by praying for us; they know what we need
We forgive in order to move on! We want to be in COMMUNION with our bros/sis in Christ
Forgiveness unites us!!
When and why do we kneel at Mass?
When - during the prayers before Communion; right before we receive Communion & right after we receive the Eucharist for personal prayer
Why - out of reverence: Communion is special and is the main reason we come to Church so we humbly kneel
The TWO most important Commandments (that Jesus said could summarize all the other Commandments into these two?)
1. Love God above all else
2. Love your neighbor like yourself
Jesus and why do we need him?
Jesus is God in human form
Jesus came to take on our sin and die for us, so that we can be reconnected with God. We needed another human who was perfect, without sin, to make us holy and perfect.
Say the Creed each Mass?
(the Creed is "I believe in One God, the Father the Almighty...)
The Creed states what we believe
It unites us under the same set of beliefs
To not go to Church on the weekend, even if you are on vacation or have to work?
