Because Mordecai would not kneel before Haman, King Xerxes's most honored noble, what did Haman ask the king to do?

(Hint: Esther 3:5-6, Esther 3:8-11)

Haman wanted to kill not only Mordecai, but all of Mordecai's people (the Jews) and told King Xerxes that the Jews keep themselves separate and do not obey the king's laws.

So King Xerxes agreed to let Haman do as he pleases with the Jews.

God orchestrated a grand reversal of plans for Haman and Mordecai/the Jews.

What other grand reversal do God's people experience today?

Our salvation! All sinners are heading towards hell, but God saves believers and no only prepares a place for them in heaven, but adopts us into His family and make us co-heirs with Christ!

Mordecai asked Queen Esther to talk to the king on behalf of the Jews. How did Esther respond to Mordecai? Did she agree right away?

(Hint: Esther 4:9-16)

Esther first told Mordecai that she cannot go to the king without being summoned by him, but Mordecai insisted that she goes, and so Esther agreed and asked Mordecai and the Jews to fast with her before she tries to see the king.

Three days after fasting, Esther goes to see King Xerxes and he invites her into presence. Esther asks for the king and Haman to attend two banquets she is holding for them. The king agrees.

After the first banquet, Haman leaves and sees Mordecai again. How does Haman feel now when he sees Mordeai?

(Hint: Esther 5:9, Esther 5:14)

Haman was still angry (v.9 filled with rage) and at the suggestion of his wife, Haman had a pole set up to have Mordecai impaled on it, if the king agrees to it.

At the second banquet Esther held for King Xerxes and Haman, Esther revealed Haman's plan to kill all the Jews and pleaded with the king not to kill her and her people. How did the King react?

(Hint: Esther 7:7, Esther 7:9-10)

The king got up in a rage and went to the garden. When he came back inside, he ordered Haman to be impaled on the very pole Haman had set up to have Mordecai impaled on.

King Xerxes couldn't sleep and had a book of the record of his reign read to him. He was reminded from the book of how Mordecai had saved his life before, but was not rewarded or honored for it.

Just then, Haman came in and was going to ask the king to kill Mordecai. Instead what happens?

(Hint: Esther 6:6-11)

Haman thought the king wanted to honor him (Haman)! So he said the person of honor should be given a royal robe (worn by the king) and a horse (ridden by the king) and this person should ride the horse on the city streets, while someone shouts out: "This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!"

So King Xerxes tells Haman to do this for Mordecai! And Haman couldn't do anything except obey.

Why do you think God allows believers to experience challenges and obstacles as part of His perfect plan?

To build their character

To teach them about faith, trust, patience, selflessness, sacrifice, grace, love, etc.

To correct them from their sin, to help them turn back to Him.

In all things, God works for his children's highest good and His glory
