Hey what!
What is Breakthrough and (therefore) our phone policy?
Phones in bag at all times unless otherwise instructed.
Say everyone's name in the class.
If correct, your table gets the points!
Describe how we act when we want to say something (at least 2 behaviors).
Begin with raising hand, wait until person is done talking, don't be distracting, if teacher still doesn't see you can quietly say their name or go up to them, etc
Come up with a bathroom policy.
I was thinking a pass and students write their names on the board when they are out, but I am open to ideas.
When do we want to listen to music and what type?
Class Votes
Study music vs. class playlist vs. both
Coming in, independent work, leaving, all 3?
Name one expectation you have for the teacher, one for your classmates, and one for yourself.
If anyone else wants to share theirs or has a question, now is the time.
How can we responsibly use technology, including AI (list at least 3 answers)?
Keep devices put away when told, only use AI if it is confirmed to be okay (check with teacher when in doubt), taco computers when someone is talking, no airpods during class, devices on Do Not Disturb, etc
What are some of the resources available to you all at Breakthrough (name at least 3)?
Teaching Fellows (TFs), Super TFs, Deans, Volunteers, Counselors, Nurse, IT, etc
What is independent and group work going to look like?
Independent: Quiet, focused, respectful of everyone's space
Group: Collaborative, inclusive, open-minded, respectful
How should we interact with the deans?
Be respectful of them and their time, be open and willing to listen to what they have to say, don't bother them with trivial things if they have bigger things to worry about, etc
Is there anything (whether it's an activity, icebreaker, science lesson, etc) that you'd like me to try and include? No promises, but I will do my best!
Must name something to receive points.
What are fair expectations for me to have for you?
List at least 2 appropriate behaviors a student can do when they are struggling to focus, and 2 things they cannot do.
Possible answers: Appropriate: Stretch, get some water, use the restroom, do a different quiet task for 5 minutes, possibly speak to the teacher or dean
Not allowed: Wander the school, disrupt and distract other students, sleep in class, use devices
As a table, brainstorm at least 3 more things you want to include in our class pact. Before adding them, we will discuss with the rest of the class to ensure everyone is in agreement.
