Dressing up in silly costumes for the holidays - While this started during Covid because my family was separated and holidays were harder to get through this also brought us together and now I have continued the tradition and it's always fun to surprise everyone and have a good laugh. It also helps break the ice when family drama arises as it always does...

My favorite, though very random, family tradition is watching The Greatest Showman with my entire extended family every Christmas Eve. What started as a silly joke the year the movie came out became an unexpected, enduring ritual. This tradition turned extremely sentimental the final Christmas we spent with my grandma. Though she was struggling with Alzheimer's and her memory was dwindling, the moment the Greatest Showman began, she stood up, sang every song, and danced with my grandpa.

Now, every year during the last song, "From Now On," we all get up and dance with my grandpa, honoring the joy she unexpectedly gave us that night and continuing her vibrant spirit.

Every Christmas eve my family has the feast of the seven fishes as our meal. My dad grew up doing this with his family, and we've done it for as long as I can remember.

The tradition originally evolved from Southern Italian roots and symbolizes the abstinence from meat during the vigil before Christmas. The number seven comes from the number of days of creation. We usually have spaghetti and clams as the main meal, and then have antipasta with 3 fishes, shrimp, scallops, and calamari!

My grandfather is the single greatest inspiration in my life. He was raised by a single working mother in Brooklyn, who him the immense value of grit, determination, and education. My family makes up new lyrics to a song (usually to the tune of obla-di-obla-da) for big occasions. But we've done it for things like my grandparent's 45 year wedding anniversary, my moms 60th birthday, my sister's 30th, my cousin's college graduation, etc.

I grew up in a house that was very much of the belief that homemade gifts are better than any gift you can buy, and this is a thoughtful/personal way that we show love on/around big moments.

Perception is reality - this came from a professor in college who explained the importance of presenting your best self wherever you are. The initial impressions people draw from brief interactions with you become their perception of who you are, so put your best foot forward at all times.

Making songpyeon with my family for Korean Thanksgiving! The half-moon shape symbolizes prosperity as it was believed this half moon would fill up with hopes and wishes (as opposed to a closed off full moon). It's a great time to look back on the year and set intentions for the rest of the year.

My dad used to be in Pharmecutical sales and there was one doctor in particular he used to call on that refused to hear my dad out on anything he tried to sell. One day, after multiple attempts of trying to pitch to the doctor, he flat out told my dad he would take him seriously the day my dad bought him a Porsche. Well the next time my dad went to visit the doctor, he came with a Porsche..... a toy one and the doctor loved this. From that day forward, they formed a close relationship and my dad ended up selling to him for years. Moral of the story, my dad has always taught me that a "no" isn't a closed door, but simply a redirection.
