Every strand is provided with a copy of the most up-to-date syllabus template. Different tiers have different expectations when it comes to revising the syllabus. This tier is required to start from the syllabus template (instead of last year’s syllabus).
What are Tier 3's?
Referring to slides by slide number makes moving slides around in a presentation difficult. This is the method of slide identification we use instead.
What are slide sections?
Most strands have either a handouts packet or an interactive notebook. The individual pages, cover, and table of contents are compiled by who.
Who is the Publications team?
The final steps in the submission process are to move your files into the “Finals” folder and to complete this form.
What is the Materials Submission Form?
An article, video, or graphic created by a person other than yourself is an example of this.
What is a copyrighted piece of material?
On the print assembly table, one of the handouts is listed as: “Rozzi’s Fudge Recipe”. What is the correct way to reference it in the syllabus?
A: “The best fudge recipe ever” B: “RH Fudge”
C: “Rozzi’s Fudge Recipe” D: “Fudge Recipe”

Publications can work with different types of documents including Word docs, PDFs, and Excel tables to create handouts for your handout packets. When this is done to a document, it makes it impossible for us to edit.

What is the Print Assembly Table?
Publications secures copyright permissions while lead writers work on revising or developing strand materials. Should you wait to include a piece of copyrighted material until permission has been secured or should you assume permission will be granted?
Assume permission will be secured and write the strand materials using the copyrighted work. Permissions are rarely denied and Publications will reach out immediately to figure out a solution.
I’ve listed my handouts in the right column of the syllabus for each activity they are used in. Should listing handouts look like number 1: Costa’s Levels of Thinking, p. XX or number 2: p. XX?

AVID Center introduces new concepts every SI season. For example, last year we introduced the focused note-taking process and this year we are introducing the critical reading process. Presenting these new concepts to participants is made easier because AVID Center updates these every year.

Why would putting “Costa’s Sentence Stems” as the item name and only listing “MyAVID” as the source of where to find the document be unacceptable?

I have 2 posters and a one-pager in my strand that are separate from my handouts packet. I want them to print in the same way as last year, but I’m not sure what last year’s print specs were, what do I do?

On the syllabus template there is a space for “talking points” but I think it would make more sense to embed them in the instructional steps. Should I include them in the talking points section or the instructional steps, or both?

AVID Center has a bank of images you can use for your PPTs. If you can’t find one in our image database, this is the form you use to request an image be downloaded for you from Shutterstock.

Since the handouts packet is compiled by the Publications department, Lead Writers are not expected or encouraged to guess what the final page numbers of the packet will be. How does a Lead Writer indicate that they would like Publications to fill in a page number during proofing?
