How do you think the heart would compensate for the lack of an SA node? Like if something happened to the SA node and it no longer worked, how would the heart resume its work?
If ever the SA node fails, the AV node takes over, as it is the secondary pacemaker of the heart. The AV node is capable of generating APs to set the heart rate to 40-60 beats per minute, which is enough to retain consciousness.
