True or False: The most qualified person gets the job.
What is... FALSE! The person who lands the job is the one who makes the best impression, regardless of qualifications. To make the best impression, you need a strong resume. A resume does not land you a job, but rather an interview. In addition, you need to excel in other ways. Sometimes people with weak resumes land interviews because they are good at networking, and are able to convince the interviewer that they possess the best match of qualifications, "chemistry," and personal attributes for the job. Personal attributes include persistence, enthusiasm, honesty, confidence, and most importantly, popularity. Don't get overconfident if you feel you are the most qualified person, but don't be discouraged if you are not a direct match for the position. In the interview you must prove yourself as the best candidate for the job.

Job-related ____________ scams usually start with a job posting or an email from a bogus employer outlining a work-at-home or a type of financial job. The scam's targets typically are instructed to use their personal bank accounts to cash checks from the bogus employer and keep a commission -- usually 10% to 15%. They then are told to wire back the remainder of the check amount, usually to a recipient outside the U.S. The catch is, the checks may be rubber or counterfeit. By the time a bank notifies the scam targets, they may have already wired money out of their account to the fraudster. Victims could face legal trouble for their role in cashing the bogus checks.

One common job-related __________ scam advertises a financial position, targeting accounting and finance professionals -- and sometimes college finance majors. Starting out, the work may seem legitimate, requiring basic finance or accounting tasks, she says. The job hunter may work from home or the scam artist may set up a "satellite office" to make the work seem legitimate. Once a person's trust has been gained, generally after about a month or two, he or she will be asked to transfer funds through his or her own account. Those who do this are unwittingly participating in money laundering. Legitimate companies never ask you to personally transfer money from your account.

Ads for _______________ usually promise unrealistic incomes and charge a fee for training or equipment. The work advertised may include stuffing envelopes, medical billing and craft assembly. Often, paid-for items, such as materials essential to performing the job, are never shipped to the job seeker, or the business doesn't have the market expected, and refunds aren't available. Not all work-at-home postings are scams, but be wary of paying a fee for a job opportunity. Being asked to pay for the opportunity to work for somebody is a red flag.
