Why is the Ford Pinto deemed one of America's dangerous cars?

Where most cars are designed to protect the occupants, the Ford Pinto had other ideas. You see, due to a design failure, a rear impact could cause the fuel filler to come loose and puncture the fuel tank, often times ending in the car being engulfed in flames like some high-budget movie stunt. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Ford allegedly determined that the cost of litigation would be less than fixing the problem (by some accounts, more than 25 deaths were attributed to the car’s design). It was the first attempt at the subcompact car for Ford, and it didn’t last all too long. The Pinto was discontinued in 1980, and the road was safer for it.

Who was the first us president to drive a car?

William McKinley was the first U.S. President to ride in an automobile, but it was during Theodore Roosevelt's Administration that the first government-owned car, a white Stanley Steamer, came into use. President Taft so fancied the "horseless carriage" that he cleared out the federal stables to make a garage.

What is wrong with the Reliant Robin?

The British Reliant Robin was another of the failed three wheel car experiments. Originally conceived to be classified as a motorcycle with relaxed licensing rules, the Robin (or the plastic pig, as it was called) came in four variations with a top speed of 85 mph. And no reverse. And while the whole flipping over thing was somewhat exaggerated, the Robins did have the unfortunate problem of the steering wheel popping off while moving.

What divided the city of berlin during the cold war?

The Berlin Wall was heavily guarded. An East German observation tower seen through 23 January 1990. The Berlin Wall was not one wall, but two. Measuring 155 kilometres (96 miles) long and four metres (13 feet) tall, these walls were separated by a heavily guarded, mined corridor of land known as the 'death strip'.

what is feudalism?

the dominant social system in medieval Europe, in which the nobility held lands from the Crown in exchange for military service, and vassals were in turn tenants of the nobles, while the peasants (villeins or serfs) were obliged to live on their lord's land and give him homage, labor, and a share of the produce, notionally in exchange for military protection.

Everything wrong with the Merkur XR4Ti?

Sold in the United States for a scant four years, the Merkur was essentially a reworked take on the European version of the Ford Sierra (Ford opted to sell under the Merkur brand name for the XR4Ti European release). The rounded silhouette design might have been common in the ’90s, but in the ’80s it was novel compared to the boxy cars of the day. While the suspension was softer, the car lacked power in a big way. The initial two level wing design was originally viewed as a positive by the automotive press, and the curious XR4Ti actually made the Car and Driver Best List in 1986. But Ford couldn’t leave well enough alone, and they replaced the two level spoiler with a single spoiler that actually increased its coefficient of drag. Shortly thereafter, Car and Driver removed the soon to be discontinued Merkur from its 1986, list citing lack of sales.

What is the problem with the Chevrolet SSR?

The Chevrolet SSR (Super Sport Roadster) was GM's crack at the early aught's retro movement that saw cars like the Plymouth Prowler, the 2008 Dodge Charger and the new Ford Thunderbird.

While the Charger and the Thunderbird aren't bad-looking, the SSR is an unusual pickup truck/convertible combo that really didn't work. Produced from 2003 through 2006, only about 24,000 units were sold, fewer than 10,000 annually. The SSR has a retractable hardtop and initially boasted a 5.3-liter V8 engine with 300 horsepower, going from zero to 60 mph in less than eight seconds. It was upgraded in its final production year with a 6.0-liter V8 engine with 390 horsepower that could accelerate from zero to 60 mph in about 5.3 seconds. Ultimately, those aren't bad stats, and I think this was a car that was either behind or ahead of its time – the public just wasn't interested.

What makes the REVA G-Wiz the worst?

I'd bet that you've never heard of the REVA G-Wiz, even though it's perhaps the most reviled EV ever made. The vehicle was actually named the REVAi and was sold as the Reva G-Wiz in the United Kingdom – it never made it to the United States. It was developed by Reva Electric Car Company in India, and they sold 4,600 from 2001 through 2012, though half of those were sold in its country of origin. The intent was to design a small, practical and affordable electric car. The result was this tiny micro vehicle that is actually classified as a quadricycle, or a four-wheel motorcycle. The REVA G-Wiz boasted eight six-volt lead-acid batteries that produce 15 horsepower. The vehicle's top speed is about 50 mph. Inside, though the manufacturer boasted it could seat four, there is barely room for the driver. These factors, along with poor safety ratings, lands the G-Wiz firmly at the bottom of an ever-growing list of EVs.
