What is Baptism?
This term refers to how God calls each person to love and serve Him and His Church
What is a Vocation?
These two sacraments are grouped together and continue Jesus’s ministry of healing for both the soul and the body
What are Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick?
A mixture of olive oil and balsam, which is consecrated by a bishop, and used to symbolize the strengthening of the Holy Spirit and the "aroma of Christ"
What is Sacred Chrism?
A Passover Seder Meal in which Christ instituted the Eucharist
What is the Last Supper?
This Sacrament is referred to in John 6:55-56 - “For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.”
What is the Eucharist?
The prayerful process of sifting through one’s thoughts, feelings, and desires to recognize God’s will and answer His call for your life
What is Discernment?
Holy Orders and Holy Matrimony, both of which are focused on the service of the Church
What are the Sacraments of Service (or Vocation)?
One of the ritual actions of Confirmation when the Bishop prays over and invokes the Holy Spirit upon the Candidates
What is the “Laying on of Hands”?
Also known as the anaphora, this is the “center” or “high point” of the Mass, a prayer of thanksgiving and consecration
What is the Eucharistic Prayer?
This Sacrament is depicted in James 5:14-15 - “Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint [him] with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven.”
What is the Anointing of the Sick?
This phrase often refers to a visit to a religious community to get to know them, how they live, and what they’re about
What is a “Come and See”?
In an emergency, this Sacrament can be administered by any person
What is Baptism?

Then they laid hands on them and they received the holy Spirit.”
What is Confirmation?
A time of committed discernment, this step of formation, typically lasting one to two years, entails learning more about what a commitment to a certain religious community will entail, with the joys and crosses of religious life and observance of the Rule
What is Postulancy?
This permanent, spiritual seal imprinted on the Soul signifies belonging to Christ, and cannot be erased or repeated
What is an Indelible Mark?
The Minister(s) of the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony
Who are the Bride and Groom?
Also meaning “food for the journey,” this is the final Eucharist administered to a dying person
What is Viaticum?
This Sacrament is alluded to in Numbers 11:16-17 - “Then the LORD said to Moses: Assemble for me seventy of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be elders and authorities among the people, and bring them to the tent of meeting. When they are in place beside you, I will come down and speak with you there. I will also take some of the spirit that is on you and will confer it on them, that they may share the burden of the people with you. You will then not have to bear it by yourself.”
What is Holy Orders?
Just as a marriage must be consummated to be made binding until death (assuming it is valid in all other respects), it is the profession of these which consummates the bond between a bride of Christ and her Beloved
