What is earmites?
A hard bump on a cavy, sometimes beneath a scab and often warm to the touch. The cavy may appear listless and stop eating.
What is an Abscess?
Large callus on the pads of the feet, that may become ulcerated.
What is Bumblefoot?
Fever, discharge from nose, sneezing, poor appetite, and listlessness are all symptoms of this infection.

What is coccidiosis?
When your cavy has a cloudy film over their eye, caused by an injury or foreign object in it’s eye.
What is cloudy eye?
A new growth of tissue of a cavy that is hard and not easily moved.
What is a tumor?
Small, moving creatures that are visible when your cavy’s hair is parted , often seen on the rump or by ears. May appear as eggs on the hair shafts.
What is Lice?
May be caused by abrasive food cutting the lips on your cavy and allowing bacteria to enter.
What is mouth sores?
When your cavy has loose or watery stool. May be caused by too many greens or a viral infection.
What is diarrhea or scours?
A growth on the eyeball itself resembling a pea.
What is pea eye?
Most common with older cavies. When a cavy is drinking large amounts of water. There may be blood in it’s urine.
What are kidney deficiencies?
Bald patches, usually circular, on the abdomen or back of your cavy.
What is ringworm?
Loss of hair and muscle tone, bleeding gums, and weight loss. Caused by lack of vitamin C.
What is scurvy?
This helps to protect your cavy from getting parasites.
What is Ivermectin?
When a cavy develops red, swollen eyes.
What is Conjunctivitis?
This is an infection of the mammary glands.
What is mastitis?
Hair trimmed irregularly and often very close to the skin. Caused by a cavy chewing it’s hair.
What is hair chewing or “barbering’?
Drooling, weakness and heavy breathing, caused by exposure to heat or direct sunlight.
What is Heat Stroke?
A cavy getting too Mach calcium in their diet, eating too much dry food, not drinking enough water and contact with dirty litter cause this to happen.
