Explain the stress response

The parasympathetic nervous system helps us "rest and digest" and maintains the stability of our physiology. When the sympathetic nervous system kicks in the "stress response" is initiated causing physiological changes to help us deal with the stressor by allowing our bodies to quickly deal with the threat. This includes increased heart rate, increase respiration, and blood diverting to muscles.
