As early as September/ October the year before (and sometimes earlier)
Assuming a student is adamant they work with you on their personal statement, what strategy might you employ to help them determine if they are fully answering the prompt?
Color code the prompt and have them highlight content in their statement that matches. This gives a good visual as to how much "real estate" they're using on a specific part of the prompt vs. others.
