COVID Policies

Any student who volunteers, regardless of whether it is an ongoing occurrence or a one-time event, MUST fill out this every year for each program you participate in, even if you did it last year.

What is a Student Waiver and Release of Liability form?

A program where children are matched with a Brandeis student who shares common activities and quality time together ranging from playing sports, doing homework, or attending special events at Brandeis.

What is Big Siblings?

This is a disability awareness group that works to build relationships and connections between the families of children with disabilities and Brandeis students.

What is SPECTRUM?

Required to be hosted by programs at least once each year, these are an opportunity for each program to work with their community to educate, advocate, and further the work on the larger systemic issue their program is designed to address. The guidelines entail including BOTH an educational component and action step. Programs should reevaluate these every year to ensure community needs and systemic changes are reflected, and should collaborate with other WG programs, clubs, and community orgs whenever possible.

What is Community Action Program (formerly Educational Outreach & Advocacy)?

Visitors can come to campus without any pre-approvals. All visitors, guests and contractors must wear a mask at all times on campus, except while eating, and maintain distancing when possible. This is needed prior to arrival on campus and shown to the campus host only for:

  • Overnight or multi-day (consecutive days) visitors and contractors
  • Visitors and contractors who come to campus from an international location

What is Proof of a negative rtPCR test from a sample taken within 72 hours?

This will provide volunteers with non-program specific information about risk management, volunteer expectations, waivers, Department of Community Service programs, as well as leadership opportunities. All Waltham Group volunteers must complete this once during their time volunteering at Brandeis.

What is the All Volunteer Training?

These two programs provide after school programs for Waltham middle school students from both McDevitt and Kennedy Middle Schools.

What are LaCE and Afternoon Enrichment?

This program has had several successful collaborations with other student organizations to host creative programming for the kids, such as the Prosthesis Club, Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers, BeWISE, and the Robotics club.

What is JBA?

This policy typically lasts for one month, and includes two check-in meetings with the Waltham Group President and/or House Rep, as well as weekly check-in emails that must be responded to with 48 hours.

What is the Probation Policy?

Currently as it is written, Coordinators will go on probation if:

-They miss two MNMs without making them up

-They do not have valid reasons for missing two MNMs (ex. forgot it)

-They do not make up Team Day

-They do not have a valid reason for missing Team Day (ex. woke up late)

All individuals regardless of vaccination status must wear a mask in all Brandeis indoor settings, except in certain spaces which are explicitly named in the policy. Unvaccinated individuals are required to wear a mask at all times — indoors or outdoors — with the exception of when.

What is when eating and drinking while maintaining 6-foot distancing or when alone in an indoor space?

This is a a pilot Leadership & Mentorship Program for BIPOC college and Waltham high School students and supporters. The program hopes to foster educational, leadership, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. 

Beginning in the 2021-2022 school year, Brandeis University Alumni, members of the Waltham community, and current Brandeis graduate students will mentor Brandeis undergraduate students who self-identify as Black, Indigenous, or Person of Color. In the fall, this program will provide a mentor and create workshops for Brandeis undergraduate students while in the spring the undergraduates will channel their acquired leadership skills to mentor Waltham High School self-identified BIPOC Sophomore, Junior and Seniors. 

The program will include workshops, retreats, online and in-person mentor and Mentee meetings, and the full support of Brandeis Department of Community Service, Brandeis Intercultural Center, Waltham Partnership for Youth (WPY), and Waltham Black Future Fund.

Outdoor gatherings have no distancing or capacity requirements. Indoor gatherings have no distancing or capacity requirements, but are currently based on this. Unvaccinated individuals should maintain 6 feet of distance as much as feasible.

This program now consistently includes an entire reading and literacy section in their program specific volunteer trainings, as well as has a robust library that is organized by reading level for the kids they meet with.

Fully vaccinated individuals can travel domestically on university-sponsored travel or for personal travel without special approval. Note that the Waltham Group and all off campus community service programs must always receive approval from their community partners first and foremost, and always notify DCS whenever you travel. Fully vaccinated individuals may travel internationally on university-sponsored travel, but must receive prior written permission from who.
