Why does pi show up in trigonometric functions, such as the unit circle, and how is it related to radians?

For calculating the circumference of a circle, the formula is C=pi(2r).

However, in the unit circle, the circumference is 2pi as the radius of the circle is 1. So, travelling once around a circle will be of the distance 2pi, and travelling half around the circle will be pi.

There are 2 pi radians in a full circle (equal to 360 degrees). pi radians equals 180 degrees. pi/2 radians equals 90 degrees.
