I'm an American filmmaker, artist, and animator. I grew up in Burbank, California and attended The California Institute of the Arts (or CalArts if you will) to study animation. After graduating I got a job as an animator and storyboard artist at The Walt Disney Company, where in addition to working on storyboards for various animated movies, I was also given the opportunity to make my own short films. One of them was a stop-motion animated short film titled Vincent, which tells the story of a boy who wished to be the actor Vincent Price, who also narrated it. In 1985 I made my feature film directorial debut with the movie PeeWee's Big Adventure. Many of my other films are known for their quirky and often gothic visual style, such as Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow, Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Corpse Bride, and Dark Shadows. I also directed the successful superhero movies Batman (1989) and Batman Returns; the latter of which is currently the only sequel that I have directed. And I also produced and conceived the classic stop-motion animated movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. Who am I?
