100

Define a cell.

A cell is the smallest living thing (NOT the building blocks of life!), and are the basic unit of all living things.

100

What do the following parts of a cell preform for a cell?

Cell membrane

Cell wall

Cell membrane-controls what goes in and out of a cell.

Cell wall-gives plant cells support and helps keep water in.

100

What are all of the domains?

All three domains are Archaea or Archaebacteria, Bacteria, and Eukarya.

100

Name all 4 kingdoms in the Eukaryote domain.

All 4 kingdoms are Animals, Plants, Fungi, and Protists.

100

What dose a carnivore eat?

A carnivore eats only meat.

200

How do you determine the magnification of a microscope?

Magnification of the objective x magnification of eyepiece (usually 10x).

200

What do the following parts of a cell preform for a cell?

Chloroplast

Lysosome

Chloroplast-in plant cells for photosynthesis

Lysosome-in animal cells, breaks down food.

200

What is a characteristic of Eukarya.

A characteristic of Eukarya is that Eukarya includes the 4 kingdoms we are familiar with.

200

What is some characteristics of the animal kingdom?

Some characteristics of the animal kingdom are that all animals are consumers, and multicellular.

200

What dose a herbivore eat?

A herbivore eats only plants.

300

How do plant cells and animal cells differ?

Plant cells do not have lysosomes and have cell walls and chloroplast that animal cells don't. Plant cells also have very large vacuoles.

300

What do the following parts of a cell preform for a cell?

Mitochondria

Nucleus

Mitochondria-in all cells makes energy from food (dose respiration).

Nucleus-contains DNA and controls all cell functions.

300

What is a characteristic of Archaea?

A characteristic of Archaea is that the live in extreme environments, most likely the 1st organisms to evolve.

300

What are some characteristics of the plant kingdom?

Some characteristics of the plant kingdom are that plants are producers, and plants are multicellular.

300

What dose a scavenger eat?

Scavengers eat dead animals.

400

What is the difference between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells?

Prokaryotic cells do not have a nucleus around its genetic material. Eukaryotic ones do, eukaryotic cells are more complex than prokaryotic cells.

400

What do the following parts of a cell preform for a cell?

E.R.

Ribosome

E.R.-transports things around the cell.

Ribosome-makes proteins.

400

What is a characteristic of Bacteria?

A characteristic of Bacteria is that they still have DNA even though they don't have a nucleus.

400

What are some characteristics of the fungi kingdom?

Some characteristics of the fungi kingdom are that fungi are decomposers, and multicellular.

400

What dose an omnivore eat?

An Omnivore eats both plants and animals.

500

What 3 things do all cells have in common?

What are the 3 parts of the cell theory?

3 things all cells have in common:

Cell membrane

Genetic material

Cytoplasm

3 parts of the cell theory:
All living things are made of cells.

All cells come from other cells (NOT are made of cells!).

Cells are the basic structure and function of all living things.

500

What do the following parts of a cell preform for a cell?

Golgi body

Vacuole

Cytoplam

Golgi body-packages proteins for transport.

Vacuole-storage of waste, water, and food. Big in plant cells.

Cytoplasm-fills cell and keeps things in place. Sometimes helps with movement of things within the cell.

500

Which domains have a nucleus?

Only Eukarya have a nucleus.

500

What are some characteristics of the protists kingdom?

Some characteristics of the protists kingdom are that protists are made up of some consumers, some producers, and some decomposers. Protists are mostly unicellular(microscopic), and protists are the leftover group.

500

What is the difference between a producer/autotroph, consumer/heterotroph, and a decomposer.

The difference between a producer/autotroph, consumer/heterotroph, and a decomposer is that producers make their own food (plant, algae, Bacteria), consumers do not make their own food (you, any animal), and a decomposer breaks down dead materials to return nutrients to soil for plants (fungi, some bacteria).
