What does the Nucleus do? What is it's function/job?
It is the part of a eukaryotic cell that directs cell activities and contains genetic information stored in DNA.
What does the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (S.E.R.) do? What is it's function/job?
It is a transport or delivery system that has no ribosomes; used for the manufacturing of lipids, hormones and other substances.
What does the Cell Membrane do? What is it's function/job?
It is a flexible covering that protects the inside of a cell from the environment outside a cell.
What are Eukaryotic cells?
They are cells that contain a nucleus and other organelles. They are also bigger and more complex than prokaryotic cells. These cells make up animals, plants, and fungi.
What does the Nucleolus do? What is it's function/job?
It is found in the nucleus where ribosomal RNA is made.
What does the Ribosome do? What is it's function/job?
It is round small granules made of RNA and are the sites for protein synthesis.
What does the Lysosome do? What is it's function/job?
It is a sac that contains digestive enzymes; where digestion happens inside the cell.
What are Prokaryotic Cells?
These are cells that are much smaller and simpler than Eukaryotic Cells. Single-celled organisms like archaea are made up of a single Prokaryotic cell.
What does Cytoplasm do? What is it's function/job?
It is a fluid inside a cell that contains salt and other molecules.
What does the Golgi Complex do? What is it's function/job?
It is the organelle that packages and distributes proteins and other substances in cells to be moved into and out of the cell.
What does the Vesicle do? What is it's function/job?
It is a sac that contains material to be moved into and out of a cell. It is part of the Golgi.
What are Animal Cells?
Animals Cells are cells that are specialized, this is because they have different shapes depending on what job they do within an animal's body.
What does the Cytoskeleton do? What is it's function/job?
It is a network of threadlike proteins that are joined together.
What does a Mitochondria do? What is it's function/job?
It is the powerhouse of the cell, site of cellular respiration.
What is the difference between a Vesicle and a Lysosome?
Lysosomes are mainly found in animal cells and Vesicles are primarily found in plant cells.
