What does IRM stand for? and what is its purpose

Intermediate Restorative material, it is not a temp or permanent solution, it can last a couple months rather than weeks (temp) or years (permanent)

200

How is it supplied, and how many components are there?

2 components: Powder and liquid

200

What are some brand names of glass ionomers?

RelyX Luting Cement, GC Fuji TRIAGE Glass Ionomer Sealant

There are a ton!

200

how its supplied

supplied in a powder and liquid form and used for permanent cementation

200

how its supplied

  •  powder & liquid, 2 paste system, capsules

200

what are some brand names?

Dentsply

300

what are the properties?

Also

what do we use it for

  • white, solid material, insoluble, reactive with strong acids, excellent adhesion properties and corrosion resistance

  • Used to cement crowns, bridges, ortho appliances and occasionally as a temporary restoration

300

what are the properties and what do we use it for?

Properties: Silicate and polycarboxylate cements

Used for ORTHO (cementing brackets), restoring areas of erosion near the gingiva, and it can also be used as a liner and dentin bonding agent

300

properties and its use

  • low irritancy, great adhesion material, easy to mix, limited mixing time

  • Usage : cementing permanent crowns, bridges, onlays & inlays, cementing orthodontic bands, also used as a cavity base material under metallic restorations

300

properties and its use

  •  good insulators, better sealing than zinc phosphate, neutral pH

  • Usage: filling materials, protective cavity liners, luting materials for crowns, bridges, inlays and orthodontic appliances, root canal fillings, and pulp capping, its also good for soothing a tooth.

300

Properties of IRM

The eugenol content in the polymer-reinforced zinc oxide-eugenol composition gives the material sedative-like qualities on hypersensitive tooth pulp and is a good thermal insulator as well.

400

what are the mixing directions and proportions?

Mixed in increments allowing for reduction of reaction rate. Mixing on a cold glass slabs slows down the setting time

400

how would you clean this up?

scrubbing the instrument manually with a surfactant or detergent and water or by using automated equipment (e.g., ultrasonic cleaner, washer-disinfector) and chemical agents.

400

mixing proportions and directions

  • 1.5 parts powder to 1 part liquid

  • Mixing directions: Incorporate powder into liquid in increments being careful not to over mix as it will not set up properly. Polycarboxylate cement set by a fast acid-base reaction

400

mixing proportions and directions

2 paste system; a powder which consists of Zinc oxide, magnesium oxide, and silica and a liquid that consist of Eugenol, water, acetic acid, zinc acetate, and calcium chloride

  • 85% powder to 15% liquid

  • incorporate half of the powder into the liquid with a heavy folding motion and pressure on mixing pad

400

why do we use an IRM?

IRMS can help sooth a tooth while they wait for a more permanent solution to whatever issue they are having

500

how would you cleanup after use?

  • Cleanup involves alcohol on a 2x2, ensuring that all instruments have been wiped down thoroughly and no cement residue remains

500

what are the mixing properties and directions?

powder/liquid

You mix this on a cool dry glass slab or on a paper pad manually

NEEDS TO BE HOMOGENEOUS

it also comes premeasured in capsules that go in the amalgamator!

500

how would you cleanup?

Cleaner containing MDP (Methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate)

500

How would you cleanup?

organic solvents including alcohol, soap, chloroform, and eucalyptus oil or an ultrasonic removal solution dissolves and removes the temporary cement.

use floss if on the tooth, if on work station use 2x2 and alcohol to clean off instruments immediately after use as well as disinfectant wipes to clean up your station or op.

Use a spatulation technique that quickly and thoroughly combines 50% of the dispensed powder into all the dispensed liquid. 1.4. 2 Bring the remaining powder into the mix in 2 or 3 increments and spatulate thoroughly.
