A progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions; it is the most common cause of dementia.
What is alzheimers disease?
A general term for the thickening and hardening of the walls of the arteries, which typically occurs in old age.
What is arteriosclerosis?
An inflammation of the joints, causes the joints to become stiff, less flexible, and painful.
What is arthritis?
A specific type of arteriosclerosis involving the buildup of fats, cholesterol, and other substances (plaque) in and on the artery walls.
What is atherosclerosis?
In healthcare, it refers to a patient's right to make their own decisions about their medical care.
What is autonomy?
Chronic condition... in which the bronchioles become inflamed.
What is bronchitis?
Where the normally transparent lens of the eye becomes cloudy or opaque.
What are cataracts?
Commonly known as a stroke; occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is interrupted or reduced, preventing brain tissue from getting oxygen.
What is cerebrovascular accident?
The integrated pattern of human knowledge, belief, and behavior that depends upon the capacity for learning and transmitting knowledge to succeeding generations
What is culture?
An acutely disturbed state of mind... characterized by restlessness, illusions, and incoherence.
What is delirium?
A general term for a decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life.
What is dementia?
A physical or mental condition that limits a person's movements, senses, or activities.
What is a disability?
A disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, especially one that produces specific signs or symptoms.
What is a disease?
Difficult swallowing.
What is dysphagia?
Chronic condition... in which the alveoli lose their elasticity
What is emphysema?
Care provided to older individuals.
What is geriatric care?
The scientific study of aging and the problems of the old.
What is gerontology?
A condition in which the intraocular pressure of the eye increases and interferes with vision.
What is glaucoma?
The inability to control urination.
What is incontinence?

What are myths?
Urination at night.
What is Nocturia?
An official appointed to investigate individuals' complaints against maladministration, especially that of public authorities or care facilities.
What is an ombudsman?
A condition in which calcium and other minerals are lost from the bones, causes the bones to become brittle and more likely to fracture or break.
What is osteoporosis?
A progressive treatment for confused elderly patients to help them focus on their immediate surroundings (time, place, and person).
What is reality orientation?
Dark yellow or brown colored spots... frequently called "liver spots," they are not related to the liver.
What is senile lentigines?
