Explain what happened during these events.

Sack of Lawrence: This was a town in Kansas, mostly populated by anti-slavery Northerners, and it was sacked by pro-slavery border ruffians. No anit-slavery deaths, but the town was destroyed.

Sumner-Brooks Canning: Senator Charles Sumner (MA, anti-slavery) said unsavory things about Senator Andrew Butler (SC, pro-slavery). Butler's cousin, Representative Preston Brooks (SC, pro-slavery), beat Sumner with a cane in the Senate.

Pottawatomie Massacre: John Brown, a fanatical abolitionist, wanted revenge for Sumner being beaten and for Lawrence. He and his followers attacked pro-slavery family and killed 5 men.
