What is abdominal cavity?
The upper part of the abdominopelvic cavity, which contains the stomach
What is body planes?
Imaginary lines drawn through the body at various parts to seperate the body into sections.
What is deep?
Structures located away from the body surface; also called internal.
What is lateral?
Body parts away from midline?
What is proximal?
Body parts close to the point of reference (generally the main trunk of the body)
What is abdominal regions?
Divisions of the large abdominal cavity. One method divides it into four quadrants, and a more precise method divides it into nine regions (e.g., epigastric, umbilical, hypochondriac).
What is buccal cavity?
The mouth, which contains the teeth and tongue.
What is distal?
Body parts distant from the point of reference (generally the main trunk of the body).
What is medial?
Body parts close to the midline
What is sagittal plane?
A plane that divides the body into left and right sections.
What is anterior?
Body parts in front of the frontal plane, or on the front of the body; also called ventral.
What is caudal?
Body parts located near the sacral region of the spinal column (or "tail").
What is dorsal?
Body parts on the back of the body; also called posterior.
What is midsagittal plane?
A sagittal plane that runs down the midline of the body and divides it into equal left and right halves; also called the median plane.
What is spinal cavity?
A section of the dorsal cavity that contains the spinal cord.
What is bilateral?
Conditions that affect both sides of the body.
What is cranial?
Body parts located near the head.
What is frontal (coronal) plane?
A plane that divides the body into a front section and a back section.
What is the pelvic cavity?
The lower part of the abdominal cavity, containing the urinary bladder, the reproductive organs, and the last part of the large intestine.
What is superficial?
Structures located near the body surface; also called external.
What is body cavities?
Spaces within the body that contain vital organs
What is cranial cavity?
A section of the dorsal cavity that contains the brain.
What is inferior?
Body parts below other parts.
What is the posterior?
Body parts on the back of the body; also called dorsal.
What is superior?
Body parts above other parts.
