What is inferior?
space that contains the spine
What is the spinal cavity?
so large that it’s divided into different sections; center region contains the epigastric, umbilical, hypogastric, and pelvic regions; right and left regions contain the hypochondriac, lumbar, iliac, or inguinal regions
What are the abdominal regions?
referring to both sides of the body
What is bilateral?
otherwise known as the mouth; space for the teeth and tongue
What is the buccal cavity?
body parts on the front of the coronal plane
What is ventral?
space for the eyes
What is the orbital cavity?
referring to body parts located near the sacral region of the spinal column(or the “tail”)

imaginary lines drawn throughout the body to separate it into sections

What is the midsagittal plane?
lower part of the abdominal cavity, contains the urinary bladder, reproductive organs, and the last part of the large intestine
What is the pelvic cavity?
referring to body parts that are above the transverse plane
What is superior?
divided into an upper and lower part; upper part contains the stomach, small intestine, most of the large intestine, appendix, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and spleen; lower part contains the urinary bladder, reproductive organs, and the last part of the large intestine
What is the abdominal cavity?
referring to body parts that are near the body’s surface
What is superficial?
divides the body into left and right sections
What is the sagittal plane?
located in the chest; contains the esophagus, trachea, bronchi, lungs, heart, and large blood vessels
What is the thoracic cavity?
referring to body parts close to the midline
What is medial?
separated into two different cavities by the diaphragm
What are the ventral cavities?
referring to body parts that are closer to the trunk of the body
