Body parts distant from the point of reference. (Knee to Toe)
midsagittal (median) plane
A sagittal plane that runs down the midline of the body and divides the body into equal halves.
spinal cavity
The section of the dorsal cavity that contains the spinal cord.

buccal cavity
The mouth, for the teeth and tongue.
rontal (coronal) plane
Divides the body into a front section and a back section.
pelvic cavity
The lower part of the abdominal cavity (bladder, repoducitve organs, last part of interstine)
superficial
Indicates the structures are located near the body surface. (external)
anterior:
Body parts in front of the frontal plane, or on the front of the body.
caudal
Body parts located near the sacral region of the spinal column (tail)
inferior
Body parts below other parts
posterior
Body parts on the back of the body (dorsal)
thoracic cavity
Cavity located in the chest.
bilateral
Conditions that affect both sides of the body.
cranial cavity
The section of the dorsal cavity that contains the brain.
lateral
Body parts away from the midline, or sagittal plane.
proximal
Body parts close to the point of reference
unilateral
Conditions that only affect one side of the body.
body cavities
Spaces within the body that contain vital organs.
deep
Indicates the structures are located away from the body surface.
medial
Body parts close to the midline, or sagittal plane.
sagittal plane
Divides the body into left and right sections.
ventral and ventral cavities
Body parts in front of the frontal plane and large cavities on the front of the body.
