What is alopecia?
Loss of hair on the scalp.
What is a cyst?
A closed sac wuth a distinct membrane that develops abnormally in body structures. (Semisolid material).
What is hypodermis mean?
The innermost layer.
What are papules?
Firm, raised areas such as pimples and the eruptions seen in some stages of chickenpox and syphilis.
What is an Ulcer?
A deep loss of skin surface that may extend into the dermis (periodic bleeding and formation of scars.
What does albino mean?
A person with an absence of color.
What does dermis mean?
The corium/true skin.
What is the integumentary system?
The skin.
What are pustules?
Pus - filled sacs such as those seen in acne.
What are vesicles?
Blisters, or fluid - filled sacs.
What does constrict mean?
What does dilate mean?
Get larger.
What is Jaundice?
A yellow discoloration of the skin.
What are sebaceous glands?
Coiled tubes that extend through the dermis and open on the surface of the skin at the pores.
What are wheals?
Itchy, elevated areas with an irregular shape.
What are crusts?
Areas of dried pus and blood, commonly called scabs.
What does epidermis mean?
The outermost layer of skin.
What are macules?
Flat spots on the skin
What does subcutaneous mean?
The innermost layer.
What is cyanosis?
Discoloration of the skin.
What is Erythema?
A reddish color of the skin that can be caused either by burns or congestion of blood in the vessels.
What is Melanin?
Produced in the epidermis by specialized cells called malenocytes.
What are sudoriferous glands?
oil glands that usually open into hair follicles.
