Slaves have no choices and no rights. They do not get to choose who they work for. They don't get breaks of days off.
Serfs do have some choices and some rights. They choose their Lord and who they serve. They can leave. They have many Holy days to rest and celebrate.
What was City life like?
Full of new smells, new sounds, new adventure. City life was a chance to start new.
What jobs/roles/responsibilities did females have during the Middle Ages?
Thye did everything men did and MORE! They cooked, cleaned, took care of children, farmed, and MORE!

Basically his assistant. He helped him with his armor and anything else he needed!
Why would someone want to live in the city instead of the Manor Estate?
Opportunity! Way more opportunity in the city and you can do more with your life. Manor estate - you are more 'stuck' doing what your family does.
How was the City different than the Manor Estate?
In the city, you had WAY more people and more jobs/opportunities. You could join a guild or start a business. You could work for someone else too, doing different things than on the Manor Estate.
What was it like to be a woman in the middle ages? Describe using 3 or more sentences.
It was TOUGH! You had a lot of responsibility and you were expected to do more than your fair share. Women did everything the men did and more!
Who was the worst of all the Barbarians? What did he do that was so bad?
Atilla the Hun - he killed his own brother for sole power of the Hun Army.
What did knights wear in battle? Why?
Armor. Their armor got heavier as time went on and they were forced to ride horses. Over 65 pounds!
Why did serfs not work for about a quarter of the year?

Compare and contrast (t-chart or Venn Diagram) women in the Middle Ages vs Women today.
Women in the middle ages had fewer rights and more gender roles applied to them. Today, women can be ANYTHING they want to be. That is not the case with the Middle Ages.
Who did Pope Leo believe should have all the power after the churches split?
Himself! He was greedy and wanted all the power.
What was the Code of Chivalry? Was it a good thing for knights? Why or why not?
Yes and no... It did control them and restrict their rights but it kept them under control and helped them treat others with respect and honor. Remember, they are training from a young age to battle....
What did it mean to live “close to the land”?
Everything that serfs have, eat, make, and need comes from the land. All their food, clothes, tools, materials... EVERYTHING is from the land.
How did trade impact cities?
City population BOOMED as trade went up! More and more people!
Why were young girls sent to convents?
For an education. Remember, girls weren't educated the same as boys, so they would be sent to convents (religious schools) for a formal education and religious training.
Who was Charlemagne? What was he known for?
King of the Frank and eventual Emperor of Rome after about 300 years! He was tall, athletic, and a VERY good leader! His people loved him!

It is a legal doucment that allows people to vote for their town leaders. VERY rare at this point in history!
