Subject-verb agreement

A singular subject needs a singular verb: The dog barks. She runs. A plural subject needs a plural verb: The dogs bark. She and Mary run. The pronouns anybody, everybody, anyone and everyone are singular. Relatedly, you need to know: a prepositional phrase is a preposition, its object, and any words that modify it. For example, in the sentence, The cat ran under the shady oak tree, “under” is the preposition and “under the shady oak tree” is the prepositional phrase.
